According to a statement from Clarence House, Kate, 32, is once again suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum, the acute morning sickness that plagued her during her pregnancy with George.
This may have once again compelled the royals to announce the pregnancy, as she will be missing the ceremony at the opening of the China Centre Building with Prince William today. Kate's first solo tour, to Malta, which is planned for Sept. 20, could also be cancelled.
Kate is being treated at Kensington Palace for the "extreme, persistent nausea and vomiting" that occurs with hyperemesis gravidarum, which can result in severe dehydration. Though the condition is often associated with twins, this isn't always the case, as Kate proved with her first pregnancy.
The royals have not announced a due date, though given her early condition, the new baby could come around April or May, for a 22-month age difference with Prince George (similiar to Kate and her younger sister Pippa, who are 20 months apart). A source told the Daily Beast's Royalist that the Duchess is not yet 12 weeks pregnant.
The new baby — regardless of gender — will be fourth in line to the throne, after grandfather Prince Charles, dad Prince William and big brother Prince George.
